Kim Allshouse, DVM
Dr. Kim Allshouse is originally from Dagus Mines, Pennsylvania. She grew up riding and competing locally before deciding to move to Rhode Island to attend Johnson and Wales University. She then built a career caring for and training horses in barns in the United States and Germany. She decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after several years of working professionally in the equine industry.
Dr. Allshouse graduated from veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin in 2018. She then pursued an internship at Texas A&M. After completing her internship, Dr. Allshouse then decided to return to New England where she practiced general equine medicine in the greater Boston area for several years before deciding to focus exclusively on dentistry. She is currently an associate veterinarian at Northeast Equine Veterinary Dental Services as well as a third-year resident in Equine Dentistry and Oral Surgery through the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). In her free time, she, her husband, Matt, and their dog, Jack, enjoy hiking, scuba diving, traveling, and generally exploring New England.
Jennifer Alterman, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Alterman has been a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College since 2019. She studied veterinary medicine at the University of Florida and completed a small animal rotating internship at Friendship Hospital for Animals in 2010. Prior to her residency Dr. Alterman practiced small animal emergency and general practice. She completed a dental and oral surgery residency at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital. Since 2016 she has been practicing dentistry and oral surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Benita Altier, LVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Benita Altier is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry. She began her career in veterinary technology in 1988 and has worked in small animal general medicine, ophthalmology, equine and llama neonatal care, canine reproduction, and dental specialty. Benita is the Past President of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT), serves as the Policy Committee Chair for the AVDT, is the President-Elect for the Arizona Veterinary Technician Association, and is a former Secretary for the Washington State Association of Veterinary Technicians. She has co-authored two textbooks on veterinary dentistry for technicians and published several articles in professional journals. Through her business, Pawsitive Dental Education LLC, she has provided professional dental instruction and consultation to veterinary hospitals and conferences throughout the U.S., Canada, and China since 2008. She is dedicated to giving back to the profession and helping veterinary technicians advance their careers in ways they never thought possible.
Jamie Anderson, DVM, MS, DAVDC, DACVIM
Dr. Jamie G. Anderson has had a lengthy career in dentistry and internal medicine. She completed her residency training at Penn Veterinary Medicine and is Board certified in both disciplines. Dr. Anderson is most interested in oral medicine and consults and publishes frequently in this field. Dr. Anderson is co-founder and co-director of the Thomas P. Sollecito One Health Fellowship in Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental medicine. A program designed to teach oral medicine to veterinary dentists. She is actively engaged in clinical research in oral medicine.
Michael Balke, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC
Dr. Michael Balke received his B.S. in biology and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. After graduation he worked as a general practice, small animal veterinarian in St. Louis, Missouri with an interest in dentistry. Dr. Balke joined Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists in August 2012 and completed his veterinary dental residency and fellowship under the guidance of Drs. Chris Visser, Curt Coffman and Glenn Brigden. Dr. Balke is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (AVD). Dr. Balke completed a fellowship in oral maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) through the AVDC in 2024.
Dr. Balke’s interests are oral and maxillofacial reconstruction and oncological surgery. He is a member of the Foundation of Veterinary Dentistry, American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Veterinary Society of Surgical Oncology (VSSO), AO North America and the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association (AZVMA). Dr. Balke enjoys presenting lectures on veterinary dental topics at local, national and international meetings.
Dr. Balke currently serves on the residency program administration committee and is a past member of the training and support committee and exam committee of the American Veterinary Dental College. He is also the current chair of the Phoenix Zoo Animal Health Committee.
Dr. Balke is the medical director of Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists at their Gilbert location.
Kris Bannon, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC
Kris Bannon received her veterinary medical degree from Texas A&M University in 1998. She worked in a small animal hospital in Santa Fe, NM for ten years before starting the first veterinary practice in New Mexico dedicated to the oral health needs of our companion animals.
In 2008, she was the first veterinarian in New Mexico to earn the title Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (FAVD). She became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (DAVDC) in 2010.
She was chosen for the Board of Directors for the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS) in 2006 and elected to President of the AVDS in 2013 for a two-year term. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation, and is a consultant on the dental specialty board of the Veterinary Information Network (VIN). In her free time, Dr. Bannon enjoys volunteering with the Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation, using her advanced dental skills to benefit disadvantaged and captive wildlife in sanctuaries across the country.
Dr. Bannon is very enthusiastic about dentistry, enjoys teaching quality dental care, and wants to share with everyone the positive effects that good dental health and oral hygiene can have on the quality of life for our beloved furry friends.
Cynthia Bell, DVM, DACVP
Dr. Cindy Bell is a veterinary anatomic pathologist and owner of Specialty Oral Pathology for Animals (SOPA) where she dedicates her diagnostic pathology practice exclusively to veterinary dental and oral pathology cases. A second edition of her coauthored textbook, Veterinary Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, will be available soon. Dr. Bell is an advocate for specialized pathology, supports the Veterinary Dental Foundation, and is passionate about the importance of clinical-pathological correlation for better patient outcomes.
Jan Bellows, DVM, DAVDC, DABVP
Dr. Jan Bellows is a distinguished veterinary dentist with a remarkable career spanning several decades. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Florida and earned his DVM from Auburn University in 1975. After an internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, Dr. Bellows established ALL PETS DENTAL in Weston, Florida, specializing in companion animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. Bellows is board-certified in Canine and Feline Medicine (ABVP) and Veterinary Dentistry (AVDC). His leadership roles include serving as president of the American Veterinary Dental College and the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry. He has authored five dental textbooks and frequently contributed to veterinary publications. As a respected expert, Dr. Bellows was instrumental in developing AAHA's Small Animal Dental Guidelines. He has been a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network's dental board since 1993. DVM360 announced Dr. Bellows as the national 2024 Dental Hero by DVM360 magazine.
Mary Berg, BS, LATG, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Mary received her VTS (Dentistry) in 2006, recertifying in 2020. Her background includes veterinary dental research, practice management and dental technician in general practice. She’s currently an adjunct at two veterinary technology programs and the president and founder of Beyond the Crown Veterinary Education; teaching dentistry to veterinary teams, using practical and easy to master methods. Mary was named the VMX Speaker of the Year in 2024, NAVTA Veterinary Technician of the Year by NAVTA in 2020, won the AVDT’s Excellence in Dentistry Education in 2019. Mary is a textbook author, speaker, and wet lab instructor at numerous state and national conferences.
Laurel Bird, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Laurel Bird is a Certified Veterinary Technician in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. She received her Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Dentistry in 2006 (the first class to get their VTS in Dentistry). Laurel spent over 20 years in general practice, taught in a Vet Tech program for 5 years, and has worked at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center of MN with 2 veterinary dentists since 2013.
Melissa Blazevich, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Melissa Blazevich graduated from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 2016, After graduation, she completed a one-year small animal rotating internship at Texas A&M University and a 3-year residency at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, Texas. She currently resides at South Paws Veterinary Specialists in Mandeville, Louisiana as well as an Associate Professor at Louisiana State University- School of Veterinary Medicine.
Jennifer Bohannan, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Jennifer has been working in the veterinary field since 1998. She Graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2006. Jennifer has worked in many different aspects of veterinary medicine over the years. She was awarded the title of Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry in 2020. Jennifer is currently working in general practice in Parker, CO.
Hannah Boothe, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Hannah Boothe is a Board Certified Veterinary Dentist™. She was raised in North Carolina, earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2011, and graduated from Auburn University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She practiced small animal general medicine in Georgia, Florida, and Maryland for six years prior to her specialty oral and maxillofacial surgery AVDC residency. She completed her residency in August 2024 and has continued serving animals’ oral health needs with Animal Dental Center. In her free time, she enjoys reading, horticulture, running, and canine agility. She has completed numerous half marathons and two full marathons. She enjoys travel and has previously combined it with veterinary medicine in multiple countries, including Guatemala, the Galápagos Islands, and Thailand. She is married to another veterinarian and is kept busy with their son and five animals (two Australian Shepherds, three cats).
Tina Brandon Abbatangelo, DDS, MPH
Dr. Brandon Abbatangelo was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is a general dentist and Clinical Director at UNLV Smiles Dental Clinic. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology from UNLV. She recently earned her master’s in public health and is working on an advanced certificate in Dental Public Health at UNLV School of Dental Medicine. She is a member of the Institute for Diversity in Leadership with the American Dental Association. She is a published children’s author of Animal Dentistry Adventures with Dr. Tabby, Animal Dentist Extraordinaire, a book written to create awareness for PEIVDF as well as animal dentistry. Her 20 years of clinical experience have included private practice, group and corporate dental practices and now academia.
Organized dentistry has been an essential part of her professional career. She has been an active member of the Southern Nevada Dental Society and is now past president. She was the first Hispanic female to be elected as President to the dental society. She is the Secretary for the Nevada Dental Association and delegate for the American Dental Association.
She is very passionate about PEIVDF. She has volunteered for over 16 years now. She is the current secretary on the PEIVDF Board. As Ms. Nevada World 2021 her platform for the pageant was to create awareness for PEIVDF. She has been a voice for captive and exotic animals speaking to legislators about the dangers of private ownership. She will continue the fight until federal laws are passed to protect these animals from being people’s private pets.
Laura Braswell, DDS
Dr. Laura Braswell is a periodontist with Dental Specialist of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia. She was on faculty at the Emory University School of Dentistry where she got her Periodontal training and currently teaches in the periodontal residency program at The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. She is the staff dentist for Zoo Atlanta, The Georgia Aquarium and several non-human primate facilities and is an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Dentistry.

Ashton Broman, DVM
Dr. Ashton Broman was born and raised in California. She discovered her love of horses at an early age and has been an avid horseback rider throughout her life. She obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis in 2011, followed by veterinary school at Colorado State University, graduating in 2018. After graduation she completed two years as an ambulatory intern at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. She is currently an associate at Rood and Riddle and pursuing a residency for equine dentistry and oral surgery through the American Veterinary Dental College. Dr. Broman is published in both the areas of reproduction and dentistry and has lectured at both local and national scientific meetings. Dr. Broman lives on a farm in Paris, KY and enjoys spending time with her four dogs out on the farm. When away from work she enjoys fly fishing, kayaking, reading and horseback riding.
Sarah Bronko, DVM
Dr. Sarah Bronko graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, where she was a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honors Society. She worked in Vermont for eight years as a small animal general practitioner, followed by two years working in a general practice limited to dentistry, before joining Veterinary Dentistry Specialists in Chadds Ford, PA and Mount Laurel, NJ as a Resident in Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 2023. During her residency Dr. Bronko has enjoyed training local veterinarians in the foundations of veterinary dentistry at the Silo Academy Education Center in Chadds Ford, PA. Dr. Bronko was awarded a Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry research grant in 2024 for her research in the use of fresh frozen sectioning technology to aid in intraoperative oral tumor diagnosis. She lives in Philadelphia with her husband and two trouble-making cats, and enjoys gardening, traveling, and Phillies baseball.
Tammy Brooks, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Tammy Brooks is an RVT and VTS with 20 years of experience and currently resides in Calgary. She graduated with distinction from the Animal Health Technology program at Fairview College in 2002. Originally working in general practice, she was drawn towards animal dentistry. Since 2004 Tammy began focusing on dentistry while working almost exclusively with Dr. Terrie Faber, a Fellow in Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. It was in 2018 when she obtained her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Dentistry. Tammy was awarded the ABVMA Veterinary Technologist of the Year award in 2023. In addition to working in practice at Alberta Veterinary Dentistry, she provides mentorship to those tracking for their specialty in dentistry as well as serving on the credentialling committee of the AVDT and has spoken at the Veterinary Dental Forum. Due to her love of teaching, Tammy provides in clinic training and consulting across Canada. She enjoys spreading education to fellow veterinarians and technologists, enhancing their dental knowledge and skills. Tammy’s passion for dentistry is driven by the dramatic improvement animals have with appropriate treatment. She strongly believes it is important to help those who cannot speak for themselves.
Grace Brown, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Grace Brown is a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist™ specializing in advanced dentistry and oral surgery for animals. Dr. Brown received her undergraduate degree in 2010 from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in September 2015. She completed her clinical training at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center.
In 2018 Dr. Brown completed clinical residency training in dentistry and oral maxillofacial surgery with Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists under the mentorship of Dr. Balke and Dr. Coffman. Dr. Brown completed her didactic residency training in Dentistry with the mentorship of Dr. Kling from the University of Illinois in 2021. After completing rigorous training and certification examinations, Dr. Brown received her specialty board certification in 2024. She knows that every pet deserves quality dental care throughout their life to have a pain-free and comfortable mouth.
Dr. Brown knows that providing comprehensive oral care for companion animals is one of the most beneficial activities that she can perform for her patients. She is excited about the opportunity to offer advances in veterinary medicine to her patients. Will Byron
Will Byron, Founder & CTO of Med Dimensions, specializes in the development of 3D-printed educational models and surgical technologies. Drawing on his background in manufacturing and commercial 3D printing, and his degree in Biomedical Engineering from RIT, Will has hands-on experience creating simulation models, surgical guides, surgical tools, and prosthetics. An IT generalist and AI enthusiast, he is passionate about the practical and emerging applications of technology in medicine. His insights will help attendees understand the fundamentals and applications of 3D printing, providing knowledge on functions, applications, implementation, techniques, materials, and where to begin.
Diane Carle, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Diane Carle received her undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College and her Veterinary Medical Degree from Tufts University. Dr. Carle completed her residency and oral surgery at a private practice in Massachusetts. Dr. Carle has taught veterinary dentistry at numerous venues including the Veterinary Dental Forum, the Pacific Northwest Veterinary Conference, and at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. She has also taught veterinary dentistry in Chengdu, China.
James Carmalt, MA, VetMB, DAVDC, DABVP, DACVSMR, DACVS
Dr. Carmalt graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1998 and, after an internship in Canada and a year of general mixed practice in Australia he did two, back-to-back, residencies in equine practice and large animal surgery. After this he went back to Australia to an equine specialty practice before returning to academia in 2007. He is a tenured full professor at the University of Saskatchewan in large animal surgery, holds a PhD, and is “board-certified” in four equine specialties (equine practice, dentistry, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and large animal surgery). He has presented his work around the world and published over 130 papers. His research focuses on the equine TMJ, and specifically the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis in the joint.
Ana Castejon-Gonzalez, DAVDC, DEVDC, FF-OMFS-AVDC, PhD
Dr. Castejon-Gonzalez graduated from University Complutense of Madrid in 2001. She worked in private practice and a Veterinary School in Portugal (EUVG) until 2014. She has been working at Penn Vet (Philadelphia, PA, USA) since 2014, where she was a resident in Dentistry and Oral Surgery. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Dentistry at PennVet.
Daniel Clayton, VMD, DAVDC
Dr. Daniel Clayton is a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist™ and Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. He began his veterinary dental career as a resident in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Veterinary Dental Services in Boxborough, MA in 2018. He worked as a small animal general practitioner for 12 years on Cape Cod after completing an internship in small animal emergency and surgery at VCA South Shore in Weymouth, MA in 2006. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Penn State University in 1998. Dr. Clayton is a member of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association and the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Clayton is an associate at Veterinary Dental Services in Boxborough, MA. In 2023 Dr. Clayton started Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery of Rhode Island and is currently working to establish a dental referral practice in Warwick.
Taylor Cortez, DVM
Dr. Cortez was raised in Edmond, Oklahoma. She graduated from Oklahoma State’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2016. She met her husband in veterinary school and after graduating they moved to Texas together. She spent the first part of her career in small animal general practice where she gained experience in all areas of medicine. She also served as chief of staff for several hospitals in the DFW area.
Her father is a human oral surgeon and Dr. Cortez worked in his practice prior to attending vet school. After several years as a companion animal veterinarian, she found her calling in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. That passion led to her becoming a dental resident under Dr. Jessica Johnson, DVM, DAVDC. Dr. Cortez is now working her way through the residency program and is committed to high-quality dental care of dogs and cats.
Jerome D’Astous, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. D’Astous graduated from the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. He completed a small animal internship at the same institution. He continued his training in veterinary dentistry in private practice and was board-certified by the AVDC in 2011. He is currently working at the Centre Vétérinaire Daubigny in Québec City.
Yves Debosschere, DVM
With over 30 years of experience in veterinary medicine, Dr. Debosschere has dedicated his career to advanced dentistry and oro-facial surgery in small animals, zoo, and wildlife species. After graduating from UGent in 1992, he spent 10 years in a mixed first-line practice for small animals and horses before specializing in veterinary dentistry. His journey began in 2001 with ESAVS dentistry training, followed by a residency under Dr. Leen Verhaert in 2015.
In 2018, he established his own consultancy practice, focusing on small animal and exotic species dentistry. Currently, he serves as a consultant in wildlife dentistry for Tsavran Consultancies (since 2024) and Chairman of MIG Dentistry Anicura. Additionally, he has been an EVDS/EVDF board member since 2015 and will assume the presidency in 2025.
Committed to advancing veterinary dental care, he integrates minimally invasive techniques, advanced surgical procedures, and evidence-based practices to improve patient outcomes and educate veterinary professionals.
Nicole du Toit, VBSc, MSc, PhD
Nicole qualified from South Africa, followed by an equine residency and PhD in equine dentistry at Edinburgh University. Nicole is a diplomate of the European and American Veterinary Dental Colleges (equine). Since 2019 Nicole has been a co-director with Chris Pearce, and recently Richard Reardon at the Equine Dental Clinic where they continue to provide a busy equine dental referral service at their state-of-the-art purpose built equine dental clinic in Dorset, UK. They also travel all over the UK and abroad providing this service. Nicole is passionate about promoting the importance of good dental care for horses as it is an essential part of their general welfare, as well as veterinary education to improve general vet knowledge about equine dentistry.
Edward Earley, DVM, DAVDC
Ed Earley started at Michigan State University for his undergraduate and veterinary medicine studies. He received a Dairy Science degree in 1983 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1985. He was initially employed as a general practitioner in Wellsboro, PA from 1985-1987. In 1987 he started his own general veterinary practice in Williamsport, PA and managed it for 33 years until being sold to a local veterinarian in 2020. For 22 years from 1997 to 2019, Ed farmed locally; raising Friesians, Fell Ponies, Angus cattle, hay, corn, soybeans, oats, and wheat. In 2004 he started a part time equine Dentistry Fellowship program with the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and obtained the degree in 2008. In 2008 he started a part time dental residency program at Cornell University in large and small animal dentistry and oral surgery. In 2014 he became a Diplomate with the American Veterinary Dental College for Equine and recently in 2022 he became a Diplomate with the American Veterinary Dental College for all species and small animal. Currently, he is an Associate Clinical Professor at Cornell University working in the department of large animal dentistry and oral surgery.
Jack Easley, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Jack Easley is an equine practitioner living and practicing in Shelbyville Kentucky. He is an associate of Kentucky Equine Veterinary Specialists LLC. He is an Emeritus Diplomate in the ABVP (Equine) and a Diplomate in the AVDC (Equine). He has published extensively on several areas of veterinary dentistry and maxillofacial surgery. He lives in a lovely horse-rich rural community with his wife (Sydney) of 54 years and a lovely Labrador Retriever.
Amy Edwards, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Amy Edwards is originally from NC where she graduated from Central Carolina Community College’s Veterinary Technology Program in 1997. She relocated to Georgia in 1999 and was employed with Atlanta Veterinary Dental Services from 2004-2022. She relocated to Florida in 2023 and is currently employed with The Pet Dentist of Tampa Bay. In 2011 she was awarded the title of Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry after completing the 2-year process and passing the board exam in veterinary dentistry. She is a member of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians and has volunteered her time to numerous committees. She enjoys teaching others the value that dentistry has on the overall health of pets and how to implement dentistry into their clinics. She has assisted and led numerous in-clinic dental courses and national dental wet labs. She is a welcomed speaker at the annual Veterinary Dental Forum and the Georgia Veterinary Technician and Assistant Association. Outside of work Amy enjoys the beach and spending time with her Boston Terrier named Tara Grace or more commonly, Tara T-Bone.
Ethan Elazegui, BS, DVM Candidate
Ethan is a current veterinary student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Loyola University Chicago in 2022, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular Biology. Ethan is expected to earn his DVM degree with Clinician Researcher emphasis in 2026. With an interest in Dentistry and Oral Surgery (DOS), Ethan hopes to pursue a small animal rotating internship followed by a DOS residency. Outside of school, Ethan likes to hike, play volleyball, and listen to Classic Rock.
Lesley Esposito, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Lesley has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire graduated in 1994. Associates in veterinary technology from Blue Ridge Community College graduated in 2003. She worked in General Practice for 22 years. During this time, she earned her VTS in Dentistry in 2018. In 2022 she moved to Florida and joined the University of Florida Veterinary Hospital. She has 2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 horses. She enjoys drawing, painting, kayaking, and all things Disney.
Lisa Fink, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Lisa Fink is a board-certified veterinary dentist/oral surgeon at Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists. She graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009 with honors. She then went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. After two years in general practice, she started a three-year comprehensive residency in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, which she completed in 2015. Dr. Fink achieved board certification by the American Veterinary Dental College in 2015. After practicing in a multi-specialty group in her home state of Connecticut for two and a half years, she joined Arizona Veterinary Dental Specialists in May 2018, where she is a clinician, a medical director, and the director of the residency program. Dr. Fink is an adjunct professor of dentistry at Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fink is a past chair and currently an active member of the AVDC examination committee and is on the board of reviewers for the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry and Frontiers in Veterinary Science.
Wayne Gingerich, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Wade Gingerich is a native Floridian who was born and raised in Southwest Florida and attended the University of Florida where he earned a DVM in 2003. In 2009, Dr. Gingerich ventured north to pursue his early passion for veterinary dentistry and began a three-year residency in dentistry and oral surgery at the University of Minnesota. In 2012, he successfully completed the residency and passed boards to become a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. Dr. Gingerich currently owns and operates Pet Dental Center, a unique specialty dentistry and oral surgery practice in Bonita Springs near the Southwest Florida community where he grew up.
Stephanie Goldschmidt, BVM&S, DAVDC, DEVDC
Dr. Goldschmidt is an assistant tenure track professor in Dentistry and Oral surgery at the University of California-Davis. She completed her residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science. She received her veterinary degree from the Royal School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland and then went on to complete a rotating internship at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island. Following residency training she spent five years as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Minnesota. She has completed fellowship training in both oral medicine (Penn Dental School) and oromaxillofacial surgery (UC-Davis). Her subspecialty clinical and research area is oral oncology, specifically she is focused on improving treatment paradigms with the use of theragnostic agents.
Cleet Griffin, DABVP, DAVDC-Eq
Dr. Cleet Griffin received his DVM degree in 1990 from Texas A&M University and worked in private practice until joining the faculty at Texas A&M in 2007. Currently, he is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences where he works primarily as an equine dental specialist and ambulatory clinician. Over the years Dr. Griffin has also lectured and taught numerous continuing education courses for veterinarians.
Melissa Guillory, DVM, DAVDC
Melissa Guillory is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and operates Montana Pet Dentistry and Oral Surgery in Bozeman, MT. She graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island and worked in primary care from 2008-2018 until embarking on and completing a residency in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Animal Dental Care and Oral Surgery in Colorado Springs, CO. She is a Louisiana native with a passion for feline dentistry and teaching other veterinarians different tenets of dentistry.
Kirsten Hailstone, BSc, BVMS, DAVDC
Dr. Kirsten Hailstone is a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist, holding the prestigious diploma from The American Veterinary Dental College, achieved in 2022 under the expert mentorship of Dr. David Clarke BVSc, DAVDC, FAVD, MANZCVS. She is a director and owner at Adelaide Veterinary Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Services (AVDOS) where she works alongside a residency trained veterinary surgeon. At AVDOS Surgery and Dentistry seamlessly combine to provide thoughtful solutions for complex issues related to companion animal oral and facial diseases and malocclusions.
In her role, Dr. Hailstone oversees the referral department, which welcomes patients seeking specialized care in orthodontics, facial fractures, treatment of oral and maxillofacial neoplasia, endodontics, periodontics, restoratives, and medical concerns involving the head and oral cavity of companion animals. Alex Harvey, DVM, DACVP
Dr. Alex Harvey grew up in rural central Wisconsin. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She did her residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Pennsylvania and became a boarded pathologist in 2023. From 2023-2024, she worked at Specialty Oral Pathology for Animals with Dr. Cindy Bell, first as a Fellow and then as an Associate Pathologist. In 2024, she moved to Asheville, North Carolina, and began working for Antech Diagnostics, where she is currently a member of the Oral Pathology Team.
Colin Harvey, BVSc, FRCVS, DACVS, DAVDC, FF-OMFS
After graduating from the University of Bristol Veterinary School in 1966, Colin Harvey completed an internship and surgical residency at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
His entire 47-year academic career was spent at Penn Vet, from which he retired in 2013 as Professor Emeritus of Dentistry and Surgery. He was trained in dental procedures by faculty at Penn’s Dental School. He was a member of the Organizing Committee and first President-Elect of the American Veterinary Dental College and served the College as Board member and Executive Secretary for about 15 years. He was a member of the American Board of Veterinary Specialists for 14 years.
His dental research has primarily centered on the cause, effect and management of periodontal disease, the most common clinical condition seen in dogs and cats. He understands the need for availability of effective home oral care products and established and was Director of the Veterinary Oral Health Council Seal of Acceptance program for its first 20 years.
He has written several books and published about 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He was Editor of Veterinary Surgery (the ACVS journal) and the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry (the AVDC journal). He has given dental presentations at hundreds of meetings on six continents. He has received many awards, including the WSAVA Global Award for Scientific Achievement.
He continues to be active as a consultant and investigator on projects in veterinary periodontology in his retirement. He enjoys his many grandchildren. Home renovation and landscaping work are his primary hobbies – his present to himself on retirement was a tractor-backhoe-front-end-loader. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles winning the 2025 Super Bowl by a huge margin.
Chad Heintz-Nunez, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Chad is an RVT in California and obtained his VTS (Dentistry) in 2014. He found his niche after accepting a job at a general practice facility in 2007. At this practice, he worked with Dr. Patricia Frost while pursuing his specialty. Chad now works as an Independent Contractor for Midmark, Sedecal, U.S.A., Dentalaire, and Zoetis, teaching dentistry and assisting with DVM-instructed wet labs. He has also assisted with technician and DVM instructed wet labs at the VDF, providing support behind the scenes. This support involves working with lab coordinators to set up and break down wet labs, clean dental instruments, and complete inventory after the VDF has concluded.
Chad served on the AVDT Credentials and Bylaws Committees, as Chair of the Application Subcommittee, and as a mentor. He currently serves as the AVDT President-Elect (2025 – 2026) and as the Education Chair. Chad seeks to become RACE-approved, establish an LLC, and co-author a Lateral Dental Radiology Positioning booklet with a fellow VTS (Dentistry). Chad and his spouse, David, own and operate a goat and sheep ranch that benefits the 4-H and FFA communities. He also enjoys horseback riding, exploring the numerous California National Parks and Forests, antique shopping, homesteading, and cooking meals for friends and family in his free time.
Brian Hewitt, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Hewitt graduated from the University of Florida Veterinary College in 1990, and has been practicing in Las Vegas, Nevada since that time. He started pursuing education in advanced dentistry in 2001 and eventually elected to pursue a residency in veterinary dentistry. He became board certified in veterinary dentistry in 2018. In 2023, Dr. Hewitt opened Animal Dental Specialists of Nevada, in Las Vegas. Dr. Hewitt is also the president of the Peter Emily International Veterinary Dental Foundation. PEIVDF is a nonprofit organization that provides pro bono services to wild animal sanctuaries, performing dentistry on large and small exotic animals.
Jessica Johnson, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Johnson graduated from Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent 10 years as a general practitioner in small animal veterinary medicine. Following her passion for dentistry, she completed her residency in 2022. In 2024, she opened Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery of North Texas. She is passionate about education; she has two residents and hosts many veterinary externs throughout the year. She offers wet labs for general practitioners monthly to help them improve their oral surgery skills. She is a member of the AVDC Training and Support Committee.
Stephanie Johnson, CVT, VTS (Anesthesia & Analgesia), (Dentistry)
Stephanie is a State Certified Veterinary Technologist based in UT. Stephanie joined the profession in 2006 as a receptionist and worked her way to the treatment area while going through tech school. She got her Associates of Applied Science Degree in veterinary technology and became credentialed in 2009. While working in general practice Stephanie realized the importance of dentistry in her patients’ overall health and comfort. She started working for a general/specialty hybrid practiced and achieved her VTS (Dentistry) credentials in 2015. During this time, Stephanie wanted to keep learning and find ways to better serve her dentistry patients, particularly patients that were at higher risk of going under anesthesia. She obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology in 2016 and achieved VTS (Anesthesia/Analgesia) credentials in 2017. Stephanie loves helping to improve her patients’ quality of life through appropriate dentistry care and pain management. Jennifer Kelley, DVM, DAVDC is a diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and joined the University of Minnesota in 2024 as an assistant professor of dentistry and oral surgery. She completed a dual track residency in small animal and equine dentistry and oral surgery at Colorado State University in 2024 and will be sitting for her equine boards in 2025 to become a double boarded small animal and equine veterinary dentist and oral surgeon. Dr. Kelley is passionate about providing high quality patient care and offering advanced oral surgery treatments to companion, equine and food animal species alike. She looks forward to the opportunity to advance the field of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery via education, research and clinical excellence at the University of Minnesota.
William Kellner, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Kellner is a graduate of the University of Vermont and Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he earned his DVM with honors. He began his career at a mixed-animal hospital in New Mexico before moving back to Vermont to focus on companion animal care. He joined the BEVS team full-time in June 2019. He has trained under several leading veterinary dental experts and has over 30 years of experience. Dr. Kellner completed a residency in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery under the direct supervision of an AVDC Diplomate Residency Director and has also completed advanced anesthesia and pain management training. He became board-certified by the American Veterinary Dental College in 2023. Dr. Kellner and his wife have two adult children, two dogs, and one cat. His hobbies include skiing and running.

Ching Ching (Shirley) Kot, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Shirley Kot is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. She received her DVM degree at the University of Melbourne, Australia and completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. She then completed her residency training in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Kot is also a qualified human dentist. She currently works in Hong Kong as a clinician but remains as a research affiliate of UC Davis.
Yu Tsung Lee, DVM
Lee Yu Tsung graduated from the Veterinary Department of National Chung Hsing University in Taiwan in 2014 and obtained a local veterinary license. He served in the Taiwan Army for one year as a qualified paratrooper, completing five jumps from a C-130 aircraft. After his military service, he worked at a private animal hospital. During this time, since small animal dentistry was in its early stages of development in his practice area, relevant information was relatively scarce. This sparked his interest in small animal dentistry, leading him to learn dental knowledge and techniques from human dental specialists and veterinarians both domestically and internationally. He participated in the EVDF in 2023 and 2024.
Kuan-Ting Lin, DVM
Kuan-Ting Lin, he goes by Tim, is a second-year small animal dentistry resident at North Carolina State University. He received his DVM degree from Michigan State University in 2022. He did a rotating internship at Kansas State University followed by a surgical internship in Animal Surgical Center of Michigan. He has a soft spot for little dogs and cats.
Jeannie Losey, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Jeannie is a Registered Veterinary Technician with over 30 years of experience in private practice and academia, 20 of which have been managing a clinical service, clinicians, and students since 2005. Jeannie is a graduate of Pierce College in Woodland Hills, California. In 2009 she obtained the VTS status in Dentistry. She has served on many committees such as the North Carolina Association of Veterinary Technicians as a past Secretary, Treasurer, Vice president, and President spanning from 2009 to 2021. She has also served on the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians from 2007 to the present as a Member at large, credential committee, exam committee, Awards chair, and currently back as part of the Credentialing Committee. From 2022 – to the present Jeannie moved into a new role at NC State University’s Health and Wellness Hospital as the Clinical Technician Supervisor overseeing the Hospital services including Dentistry and Oral surgery, Blood Bank, Exotic medicine, Small Animal Primary Care, Sports medicine and Rehab, Behavior Medicine and the newest addition in 2025 with the Omega Transitional and palliative care Service.

Patricia March, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Pat grew up on a small farm in Missouri and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University with an associate’s degree in animal health technology. She started her career by working in small animal and emergency medicine, and as an instructor for veterinary assistants and technicians in Denver. Her dog, Tony fractured his lower canine tooth, requiring root canal therapy. Thus, developed her special interest in veterinary dentistry, which she pursued by becoming a credentialed Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry in 2007. She was elected to the board of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians, where she served as President-Elect and President. In 2009, she was profiled on the cover of Veterinary Technician magazine. She worked at the University of Pennsylvania’s Veterinary Hospital, for 3 years, instructing veterinary students in proper dental techniques. She lectures extensively and presents dental wet labs at local and national conferences. She has authored many dental related articles and contributed to the text: “Small Animal Dental Procedures for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses”. She worked for the last 12 years as a veterinary dental technician at a dental specialty practice in Maryland, while still traveling and doing in-clinic dental training. She now works as a dental training coordinator for a company with over 300 veterinary practices.
Robert Marx, DVM
Robert Marx graduated as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from University of Veterinary Medicine Budapest in 2019. Afterwards he moved back to Germany to start working at the multidisciplinary small animal hospital Hofheim in Hesse. After his general rotation he started his training in all forms of routine and advanced dental care under the supervision of Dr. Andrea Rupp, head of department of veterinary dentistry of the small animal hospital Hofheim, and senior veterinary dental surgeon Oliver Groß. In July 2021 he started his alternative residency in collaboration with the University of Veterinary Medicine Ljubljana under the supervision of Assist. prof. Ana Nemec DVM, PhD, Dipl. AVDC, Dipl. EDVC, Spec. in canine and feline medicine.

Todd McCoy, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Todd McCoy is a board-certified veterinary dentist. He completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and Archaeology at the University of Houston where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1995. He graduated from the Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. He spent the next several years in general practice before entering a formal veterinary dental residency program and completing it in 2015. Dr. McCoy Is owner of the Texas Veterinary Dental Center. Dr McCoy is co-owner of Lone Star Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals in Alvin, Texas. His special interests are periodontal disease, endodontics, and oral surgery. Dr. McCoy is a member of the American Veterinary Dental College, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association.
Erin McGuirk, DVM
Dr. Erin McGuirk is a second-year resident in Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery at Animal Dental Care and Oral Surgery in Fort Collins, Colorado, under the mentorship of Dr. MJ Redman. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 2022. Dr. McGuirk’s current research focuses on Class II malocclusions and concurrent congenital dental pathology. In addition to her clinical and research work, she is actively involved in professional education, delivering lectures and conducting wet labs for general practitioners in her area.
Briana Mirchel, DVM, CCRP, CHPV
Originally from NY, Dr. Briana Mirchel received her undergraduate degree in Biology and Anthropology from SUNY Stony Brook then went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California. Dr. Mirchel returned to the east coast to complete a yearlong rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ. After spending some time in emergency and general practice, Dr. Mirchel fulfilled her passion of combining shelter medicine with general practice when she became head veterinarian for the Pet Health Center at North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, NY while also working as a mobile veterinarian around the boroughs of NYC for the ASPCA. Missing the sunshine, Dr. Mirchel moved back to California to take a position as Assistant Professor of Shelter Medicine at her alma mater, Western University of Health Sciences where she taught high volume/high-quality spay/neuter surgical techniques and community practice to veterinary students while also pursuing certifications in physical rehabilitation and hospice/palliative care. Coming from a family of human dentists (her Opa, Frank Mirchel; her uncle, Frank “Kelly” Mirchel; and her cousins Ryan and Thomas Mirchel, both maxillofacial surgeons), Dr. Mirchel has always had an interest in dentistry. Since 2022, Dr. Mirchel has been working under the mentorship of Eric Van Nice, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC at Animal Dental Services in Tustin, CA where she plans to continue to use her dentistry knowledge to help shelters across the world.

Dr. Brenda L. Mulherin graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She entered private practice for a few years before returning to Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine as a faculty member in the Primary Care Service. She entered and completed a Dentistry and Oral Surgery Residency with the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014. She became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 2015. Dr. Mulherin currently is a Full Clinical Professor at Iowa State University and is charged with small animal dentistry education for veterinary students. Dr. Mulherin recently was the editor for a veterinary oral and diagnostic imaging textbook.

Chris Pearce, BVSc, CertEM, CertEP, DEVDC, FNCED, MRCVS
Chris has considerable experience at all levels of equine dentistry. Chris graduated from Liverpool University in 1990 and gained RCVS post graduate Advanced Practitioner Certificates in Surgery and Internal Medicine. In 2001, following his interest in equine dentistry, Chris became the first veterinary surgeon to pass the BEVA/BVDA equine dental technicians exam for entry into the BAEDT and has subsequently been Chair of the Examining Committee three times. In 2011 Chris won the Pet Plan Vet of the Year award in recognition of his dedication to equine dentistry and importance for equine welfare. In 2013 Chris opened The Equine Dental Clinic Ltd, a dedicated advanced referral practice in equine dentistry. In 2014 Chris passed the first full examination for the European Diploma of Equine Dentistry granting him European Veterinary Specialist status, as well as also becoming recognised by the RCVS as a Specialist. Chris lectures, teaches and examines regularly at courses and conferences around the world. Chris has a particular interest and wide experience in novel minimally invasive, restorative and preservative therapies. Chris was President of the European Veterinary Dental College from 2020-2022, a Board member since 2013, previously sitting on both Examination, Nomination and Credentials Committees. In 2022 Chris was awarded Fellow of the Nordic College of Equine Dentistry. Outside of work Chris plays in a couple of bands playing piano, accordion, ukulele, the church organ and cycles in-between.
Maya Popovich, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Maya Popovic obtained her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2011. She was a general practitioner for 9 years in Ottawa prior to pursuing a residency in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery at the University of Montreal in 2020. Dr. Popovic received her board certification from the American Veterinary Dental College in 2023 and has since returned to Ottawa, offering services as a specialist in dentistry and oral surgery.

Dr. Queck graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa in 1986. She was admitted to the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry as a Fellow in 1993 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dentistry in 1993.
William Rainbow, DVM
Dr. Rainbow is from Ocala, Florida. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. He performed received additional equine dental training through a residency program with Dr. Jack Easley in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Together they run Kentucky Equine Veterinary Dental Specialists in Versailles, KY.
Matthew Raleigh, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Matt Raleigh is the founder of Capital Area Veterinary Oral Surgery in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside of DC. His prior experience includes residency in a private dental specialty practice, designing and heading a dental department at a multi-specialty hospital, and then spending the last five years in a private specialty dental practice in Leesburg, Virginia. Fracture emergencies have been a fundamental part of his practice, whether pathologic, traumatic, iatrogenic, related to a housemate, car, fall from height, tractor, golf club, baseball bat, brick wall, various lawn appliances, firearm damage, carbon fiber arrows...and so on. Dr. Raleigh is well-versed in a wide variety of fracture repair techniques, some of which will be practiced here at VDF 2025. Outside of his love for veterinary dentistry, Matt enjoys adventures with his family including his wife (also a vet) and two tiny children. His remaining time is spent petting his cats, hiking, reading, and listening to heavy metal.
Jennifer Rawlinson, DVM, DAVDC, DAVDC-Eq
Dr. Rawlinson graduated from Cornell University Veterinary College in 1998. She completed her residency program in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and became an AVDC Diplomate in 2006 and AVDC Equine Diplomate in 2014. From 2005-2011, she created and ran the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at Cornell University. In 2013, she greatly expanded the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at Colorado State University, where she now works as a tenured Professor. She was the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service Heads at Cornell from 2005-2011 and Colorado State from 2013-2020. In 2020, she became the President of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). She has served on many key AVDC committees since becoming a Diplomate, and she has been on the Board of the AVDC for over 14 years. Dr. Rawlinson has focused her energies on expanding dental and oral surgical care to all species, which include small animals, equids, camelids, pigs, livestock, exotic pets, and wildlife, throughout her career. She was the driving force behind the creation of the Equine Dental Specialty within the AVDC. She has published over 40 refereed journal articles and received multiple awards from the AVDC and Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry. She is passionate about mentoring and educating DVM students and residents as evidenced by both the curriculum and residency programs she created at Cornell and Colorado State Universities. Currently at CSU, she is a member of the Clinical Review Board, Faculty Council, and the Service Leader for Equine Dentistry.
Adriana Regalado, MVZ, DAVDC
Dr. Regalado is a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist and Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University, where she also serves as Chief of the Department of Dentistry at the Small Animal Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She earned her veterinary degree from the University of Guadalajara in 2000 and later completed re-training for internationally educated veterinarians at the University of Guelph (OVC), along with externships at The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in surgery, anesthesia, and pathology. She completed her dentistry residency in Vancouver and became board-certified in 2019. In 2022, she finished a fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Regalado’s clinical interests include brachycephalic dentistry, atraumatic extraction techniques, malocclusion evaluation, and maxillofacial surgery. Her current research focuses on the therapeutic use of botulinum toxin for pathologic maxillofacial conditions and the in-chair fabrication of temporary palatal obturators. Outside of work, she enjoys fitness, swimming, and long walks with her husband and their two rescue Chihuahuas, Paco and Mando.
Brittney Rigby, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Brittney Rigby grew up in Utah where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business from Utah State University. Following her undergraduate degree, she attended veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin and achieved a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2018. Since her first year of veterinary school, Dr. Rigby had a strong passion for veterinary dentistry due to the unique anatomy of the oral cavity and the complex diseases that manifest there. Upon completion of veterinary school, she continued her education through specialty training. Dr. Rigby completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship at the Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Center (CARE Center) in Calgary, Alberta where she was able to hone her skills in many facets of veterinary medicine including emergency medicine, surgery, dentistry, anesthesia, and more. Dr. Rigby moved back to Wisconsin where she completed a residency training program in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. During her residency, she was trained in advanced dental procedures, and in maxillofacial surgery, including oncologic surgery (removal of facial tumors) and treatment of facial fractures. Dr. Rigby joined Alberta Veterinary Dentistry in Calgary in March 2022. Dr. Rigby is skilled in all aspects of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery including diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease and endodontic disease, prosthodontics, orthodontics, facial traumatology, and oromaxillofacial tumors. While she enjoys all the disciplines included in the scope of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, she is particularly passionate about pediatric dentistry and feline dental surgery. Joining Dr. Rigby in Calgary is her husband, Michael, and their kittens, Archibald and Ogden. After growing up in the foothills of the American Rocky Mountains, Michael and Brittney are thrilled to be living in the Rockies to enjoy all things outdoors including hiking, biking, camping, cross-country skiing and snowboarding. They are also avid travelers and enjoy exploring new cultures and climates around the world.
Denise Rollings, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Denise is a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) who is dedicated to improving the oral health of animals. She graduated with honors from Madison Area Technical College in 2001 with her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology. After trying out various fields of veterinary medicine, she found her true calling in dentistry and pursued her VTS in Dentistry through the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT) in 2014. Denise founded Pet Dental Education, LLC in 2017 to promote education and innovation in veterinary dentistry. She provides on-site training to veterinary hospitals all over the country, aiming to improve the standards of dental care for animals. Additionally, she has served as a dental educator for several companies, teaching and inspiring others with her expertise. Denise has taught and assisted in over 200 lectures and wet labs over the years. Apart from her educational efforts, Denise also provided compassionate dental care at the Pet Dental Center in Estero, FL, enriching the lives of pets one tooth at a time. Denise's commitment to excellence in dentistry was recognized in 2020 when she received the "Rising in Dentistry Leadership" Award from the AVDT. She also served as the Director at Large Board Member of the Academy, furthering her impact on the profession. Denise is also the honored recipient of the Viticus Group 2024 Veterinary Technician Speaker of the Year Award. Denise has recently changed roles and is now the Practice Development and Improvement Specialist for iM3, Inc where she can pursue her flare for dentistry by helping practices increase their standard of care in veterinary dentistry. Denise's love for animals doesn’t just end when the workday is over. She shares her home in Fort Myers, Florida, with her husband and beloved fur babies. Among them, her cherished cat Spaulding holds a special place in her heart—so much so that if she could, she'd marry him. Her adventurous spirit has led her to study anthropology, with a special focus on New World primates. She even spent time in the Peruvian Amazon studying macaws, despite facing challenges such as battling leishmaniasis twice. However, one thing she won't adventure into is the kitchen—she openly admits to hating cooking.

Dr. Amy Rossi is a veterinary dentist in Tacoma, Washington. She particularly enjoys oral surgery on old dogs with lots of anesthetic issues, orthodontics, jaw fractures and any procedures with cats.
David Sarment, DDS, MS
Dr. David Sarment is an accomplished clinical researcher, practitioner and author. He is a past clinical Faculty at the University of Michigan and a co-investigator on the initial Xoran Cone Beam Computed Tomogram. The first patient on the first Xoran prototype was his patient. Dr. Sarment obtained his degrees at the medical and dental schools of Paris, France. He was the first student from France, on a grant, to be selected in the combined Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. While a resident, he obtained a Master of Science in Biology and became one of four nationwide research Fellows at Veterans Affairs. Dr. Sarment’s initial research interest focused on specific enzymes causing disease common to inflammation and auto-immune degeneration such as arthritis. He then became interested in surgical navigation and computed tomography. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and an ad-hoc reviewer for several scientific texts such as the Journal of Maxillofacial Surgery and the Journal of Maxillofacial Radiology. Once at the University of Michigan, Dr. Sarment taught surgery and conducted clinical research. He was a research mentor on ten theses. He performed the first US maxillofacial surgery using surgical guidance and later became the scientific advisor for a small navigation company called DenX. He joined the advisory board of several companies and created then sold an implant planning software. His research was funded by various institutions such as the National Institute of Health, but also by companies such as Collagenex Pharmaceutical, Materialise, Biomimetics Pharmaceutical or Sunstar medical. He is the author and co-author of three patents. Dr. Sarment was an early Scientific Advisor at Xoran Technologies and later joined the Company as its president to focus on innovations. He also started a clinical practice and grew it to its full potential. Dr. Sarment is the author of two textbooks. The “Manual of Implant Dentistry” (Lexi-Comp) was first published in 2004 and is now about to enter its third Edition. It has been a mandatory textbook for about five dental schools in the US. The second textbook, “Cone Beam Computed Tomography for Maxillofacial Applications” (Wiley-Blackwell), was published worldwide at the end of 2013 and is now being translated to Spanish. He is the author or co-author of six book chapters and over thirty peer-reviewed scientific articles. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics of surgery, Cone Beam Computed Tomography and surgical guidance.
Kelly Saverino, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Saverino is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC). She grew up in Raritan, NJ and obtained her Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University in 2007. She then obtained her veterinary degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. After completing a rotating internship, she was an emergency medicine clinician for several years in NJ, PA and DE. She was able to pursue her passion for advanced dentistry and completed a three-year residency in dentistry and oral surgery with the University of Pennsylvania from 2016-2019. Dr. Saverino then spent time in a multi-specialty hospital in Chicago, IL before moving back to the Philadelphia area. In 2024, she began Philly Vet Dentist, a mobile specialty service which brings advanced dentistry and oral surgery to general practices and specialty hospitals in the greater Philadelphia area.
Bonnie Shope, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Bonnie Shope is a practicing small animal Board Certified Veterinary Dentist™ and owner of Veterinary Dental Services, LLC, located outside of Boston, Massachusetts (USA). She is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College™, is Past-president of the AVDC®, has served on the board of directors since 2018 and is past Chair of the Exam Committee and the Training Support Committee. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (’97), and Brown University (’91). From 2002 to 2007 she worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and is currently a residency director within private practice. She lectures frequently on a variety of topics in small animal dentistry.

Dr. Allen Skinner graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 after completing his clinical year at Louisiana State University. He then completed a small animal rotating internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego before completing his residency at Veterinary Dental Specialties in San Diego, CA.
Mark Smith, DACVS, DAVDC, FF-AVDC-OMFS
Dr. Mark M. Smith received his veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American Veterinary Dental College. He is a Founding Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for both Colleges and was professor of surgery and dentistry at VA Tech from 1988-2004. Dr. Smith is the recipient of numerous awards including the Norden Distinguished Teacher Award, AVMA Award for Research Excellence, American Veterinary Dental Society Hill's Research and Education Award, and the American Veterinary Dental College Service Award. He is co-author of Atlas of Approaches for General Surgery of the Dog and Cat and is also Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Veterinary Dentistry. Tammy Smith, CVT, RVT, VTS (Dentistry) Med
Tammi Smith, M. Ed, CVT, VTS (Dentistry) graduated from Concordia University in Portland, OR in 2016 with a master’s degree in Career and Technical Education. She completed a veterinary technician specialty in dentistry in 2012 and a degree in veterinary technology at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, FL in 2002. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in biology at Messiah College in Grantham, PA in 1988 and has been working in the veterinary field since 1992. She is currently president and founder of Veterinary Dental Education Services, Inc.
Tammi has had a varied career in veterinary medicine including general practice, emergency care, ophthalmology, and dentistry. She has a passion for veterinary dentistry and education. She currently spends most of her time educating veterinarians and technicians on that subject.
Tammi is a member of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians and is currently past president of the Academy. She has previously served as president, secretary and credentials chair. She is a member of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, the Florida Veterinary Technician Association, and the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators. She received the 2020 Excellence in Dentistry Education award.
Maria Soltero-Rivera, DAVDC, DEVDC
Dr. Maria Soltero-Rivera is a tenure-track Asscoiate Professor of Dentistry and Oral surgery at the Department of Surgical and Radiological Sciences, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Soltero-Rivera completed her residency-training program in Dentistry at PennVet and worked as a visiting scientist at Dr. Joe De Risi’s lab, focusing on illuminating feline gingivostomatitis causative agents using metatranscriptomic next-generation RNA sequencing technology. She is a Diplomate of the American and European Veterinary Dental Colleges. Dr. Soltero-Rivera’s clinical and research focus is on oral medicine. Dr. Soltero-Rivera completed the Thomas P. Sollecito One Health Fellowship in Oral Medicine in the Summer of 2024 and is pursuing a Masters in Advanced Studies (M.A.S.) in Clinical Research. Her lab investigates and uses innovative technologies, including next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence, to study the oral mucosa, the interkingdom interactions in the oral cavity, and the host responses to this biomass. This is done to advance diagnostic and treatment methods used in dentistry and oral surgery, harnessing companion animal disease models to provide individualized and more precise oral care.
Aylesse Sordillo, PhD
Aylesse Sordillo is a Senior Scientist at Kingdom Supercultures in Brooklyn, NY where she leads Superculture ingredient validation work, including clinical trials. The mission of Kingdom Supercultures is to make a quantifiable impact on unmet consumer health needs using natural microbes. Aylesse received a PhD in Biological Sciences from The Rockefeller University.
Jason Soukup, DVM, PhD, DAVDC, FF-AVDC-OMFS
Dr. Soukup is a Clinical Professor in Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. He received his DVM from Texas A&M University in 2002. After completing an internship, he spent three years in general practice before pursuing advanced training in dentistry and oromaxillofacial surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was board-certified by the American Veterinary Dental College in 2009 and became an AVDC Founding Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2018. In 2022, he acquired a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He currently serves as section head of the Dentistry and Oromaxillofacial Surgery service and the director of the Oromaxillofacial Surgery Fellowship program and the UW Medical Modeling and Printing Lab. His clinical and research interests are in the areas of dental and maxillofacial biomechanics, oromaxillofacial reconstruction, oral surgical oncology as well as medical modeling, virtual surgical planning and 3D printing.

Kevin Stepaniuk, DVM, FAVD, DAVDC
Kevin S. Stepaniuk is a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and is co-owner of Pet Dental Specialists. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary, DVM degree from Oklahoma State University and completed a small animal internship at Washington State University. His specialty training was in private practice. He is a previous faculty member and section chief of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Minnesota. He is an invited international and national renowned lecturer and instructor. Dr. Stepaniuk is a journal and textbook author as well as a reviewer for various dentistry and oral surgery publications. Brad has developed a well-rounded resume between several engineering appointments along with his sales experience with Materialise. Brad began his career in 2018 at Calsonic Kansei North America, now known as Marelli, where he served as a Product Development Engineer for 3 years. In this role, he managed supplier timelines with multiple vendors and modified parts based on customer requests. His understanding of customer needs allowed him to build strong, lasting relationships and deliver tailored solutions. In 2022, Brad joined Materialise as the Academic Account Manager. At Materialise, he is responsible for managing client accounts, developing software configurations, and coordinating same-day support with application engineers. His role involves delivering comprehensive software solutions across various sectors, including veterinary, education, and government. Brad is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he completed his Bachelor’s in Bioengineering. He is based in Plymouth, MI, and is known for his dedication to client satisfaction and his ability to navigate client needs to deliver optimal solutions.
Helio Vasco, DVM
Helio Vasco is from Brazil, where he got his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and master's degrees from the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco. Currently, he is an equine dentistry and oral surgery resident under Dr. Jack Easley's supervision. Helio enjoys spending time with his family in his free time.
Kelly Vearil, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Kelly is a Registered Veterinary Technician and full-time professor at the University of Cincinnati Veterinary Technology Program. She obtained her VTS in Dentistry in 2014, and Masters in Education, Curriculum and Instruction in 2021. Last year she was inducted as a Fellow in the Association of Veterinary Technician Educators. She is also a QPR instructor certified in suicide prevention training. She enjoys teaching future vet techs, as well as teaching and lecturing in dentistry nationally. When she isn’t teaching, she loves to work out, be in nature and travel to watch her daughter play softball.
Cesar Vega, DVM
Dr. Cesar Vega received his veterinary degree from La Salle University in Bogota, Colombia, where he was born and raised. After moving to the United States in his mid-20s, he completed all required courses and exams and received his DVM license in the United States in 2007. Dr. Vega has been practicing general medicine in California for 15 years. He started his residency in dentistry and oral surgery at Dentistry for Animals in April 2023.
Lenin Villamizar-Martinez, DVM, MS, PhD, DAVDC
Dr. Lenin Arturo Villamizar-Martinez is an Associate Professor, Resident director, and head of the Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service, at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College. He completed his veterinary degree at De La Salle University, Bogotá, Colombia, in 2003. After graduation, he spent three years in companion animal practice in Bogotá before moving in 2006 to Brazil to perform his master’s, Ph.D., and postdoctoral studies at the Veterinary and Animal Science School of the University of São Paulo. During this time, he also participated as a research fellow and clinical instructor collaborator in the Diagnostic Imaging Service and the Comparative Dentistry laboratory of the School of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science of the University of Sao Paulo. Dr. Villamizar moved to Philadelphia in 2014 to perform his Dentistry and oral surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. His clinical and research interests include maxillofacial trauma, oncology surgery, and diagnostic imaging of the dental and maxillofacial structures and the temporomandibular joint.
Rebecca Vogel-Waski, DVM, DAVDC
Rebecca Vogel-Waski is a board-certified veterinary dentist practicing at Red Bank Animal hospital in New Jersey. She did her specialty training at the University of Philadelphia, with a specific interest in maxillofacial surgery associated with neoplasia and trauma, as well as endodontic and orthodontic treatments. When Dr Vogel-Waski isn’t addressing cat and dog dental and oral surgery she enjoys watching her infant grow into being a small human.
Allison Volk, DVM
Dr. Volk is currently a 3rd year resident in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of California-Davis. She grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and completed veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her Irish setter Robin, reading, and playing board games with friends.
Mary Volker, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Mary Volker is a board-certified veterinary dentist and oral surgeon (Diplomate American Veterinary Dental College). She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2010. She completed her rotating internship at VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Colorado in 2011. Dr. Volker finished her veterinary dentistry and oral surgery residency in 2013 and became an AVDC Diplomate in 2014.
Dr. Volker is a partner at her practice, Animal Dental Center, in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Animal Dental Center is the largest veterinary dentistry & oral surgery specialty group on the East Coast. Dr. Volker serves as Medical Director as well as Director of Animal Dental Center’s residency program.
Mary holds multiple leadership positions in the veterinary dentistry community, acting on the Board of Directors for the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry, and several committees of the American Veterinary Dental College. She is a well-known national lecturer; she is also an instructor at the Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore, MD, where veterinarians and veterinary technicians from around the world learn about veterinary dentistry.
Mary lives with her husband who is also a veterinarian and alumnus of ISU CVM, their children, and their German Shorthaired Pointer pup, Minerva. The Volker family loves swimming, playing sports, hiking, traveling, and exploring together.
Caroline Washington, DVM, DAVDC
Dr. Washington attended veterinary school at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and graduated in 2012. She then entered general practice prior to starting a private practice dental residency program in 2017at Barrington Animal Hospital in Barrington, Illinois. She recently became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College in 2021.
Carol Weldin, RDH, BS
Carol Weldin, RDH, BS, is a Registered Dental Hygienist and Consultant who has been involved in veterinary dentistry since 1981 working with charter members of the American Veterinary Dental College on the design of specialty instruments and proper prophylaxis techniques for companion animals.
Carol was a reviewer of Veterinary Dental Techniques, 1st and 2nd editions; Veterinary Dentistry for the Technician & Office Staff, and has designed specialty instrument kits for veterinary dentistry. She has chaired periodontal instrumentation courses at the Annual Veterinary Dental Forum; served as an officer of the American Veterinary Dental Society and member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry.
Carol lectures encompass the use of high-frequency ultrasonic instrumentation, along with instrument selection, care and usage.
Rebecca Windsor, DVM, DACVIM
Dr. Rebecca Windsor earned her DVM from the University of California at Davis in 2005, followed by an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University and a residency in neurology and neurosurgery at UC Davis. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2009. Dr. Windsor has 20 years of clinical experience at private specialty hospitals in Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay area, Chicago, and Denver. Dr. Windsor was recently named a Best in Colorado Top Doctor of 2024 for excellence in veterinary medicine. She has a strong passion for clinical research and teaching and has authored numerous publications. She joined Ethos Discovery (a non-profit incubator of scientific innovation) as a Clinician Scientist in 2021, where she currently leads the Neurology research portfolio. Dr. Windsor’s main research interest involves identifying early clinical markers and treatment options for necrotizing meningoencephalitis, a fatal neuroinflammatory disease in dogs. She was appointed the House Officer Research Project Coordinator for Ethos Discovery in 2024 and currently mentors over 100 house officers in clinical research. Dr. Windsor is committed to helping advance veterinary medicine by bringing novel diagnostics and therapeutics to pets. She joined Gallant Therapeutics in 2025 as the Director of Veterinary Affairs and is passionate about educating the veterinary community about the therapeutic potential of stem cells.
